I made a shawl!! So much fun to knit! I'll confess to being a bit scared at first. I mean, just the word lace kind of sounds tricky right? But really it was a pleasure to knit! I would most definitely recommend it to a beginner knitter looking for a simple yet full of new techniques pattern!
A bit of details maybe. The shawl is called Whispering Pines, partly inspired by the loveliest poem ever, Stopping by Woods on a snowy evening and is the first design of Molly from A Homespun House podcast (which I highly recommend!!). It uses around 420 yards of fingering weight yarn or light sport yarn. I chose to knit mine with some Quince & Co fingering yarn in their Cypress color way. I honestly knew right away that this shawl would have to be in forest green and it turned out even better than I expected! I have two more projects planned using Quince & Co wool so I will give you my opinion of it a bit later!
Blocking it was a bit trickier than actually knitting it because I don't really have any proper equipment for it, so it's not quite as big as it could be. But I can always block it again so it's no big deal!
So basically, shawls are awesome. Let's knit some more! Seriously though, I feel like I need shawls in every color and every thickness of yarn there is now. And I already have a few in mind of course!
Like Henslowe, Brill, Drachenfels, Hansel, Aeris, Winterberry and Campside.
Which one do you like best?
Which one do you like best?
The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
Oh gosh, I just had a clear out of my Ravelry favourites, but I've had to add most of the ones you listed! I think Henslow is my favourite, but I've got my eye on Campside because knitting with DK sounds like just the job for a gloomy winter day :)
ReplyDeleteYour shawl is so beautiful - the colour and the pattern are perfect for each other. It's tricky to get Quince & Co in the UK, so I'll look out for your other posts about it with interest. I don't mind making a special trip if it's going to be worth it!
so fun, Henslowe and Campside are my fave too!! I even already have the yarn in my stash for the first one and I'm thinking of trying Shilasdair gorgeous Luxury DK for Campside!
DeleteOh I love that colour! So beautiful! Shawls are so satisfying to knit - you usually only need one skein of fingering weight yarn, and ta da you are warm! I love Winterberry - the border looks quite interesting to knit, challenging but not too much. Looking forward to your review of Quince + co.
ReplyDeleteThat is a gorgeous shawl! It looks spectacular in that color. I love making shawls, too, I just never know how to wear them.
ReplyDeleteReally love the color you chose! Stunning : )
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous color! Each time you share a finished project you make me wish I could knit :( the Drachenfels (spelling?) is my fave... But I don't know anything so don't listen to me!
ReplyDeleteBTW, I love those last lines! Love them!
ReplyDeleteSwooon...Lea! That shawl is so very pretty.
ReplyDeleteLove the color and the pattern...I bet this will be well loved
Beautiful work you do.
my girlfriend Kathy C just finished hers as well. YOURS is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteYour shawl is lovely, great color. I like the colors of your fair Isle too, I have a kit I bought from Jamieson, to get me started with fair isle. Its waiting in line. The Outlander series is very good, you read 5 in a few weeks! I remember when I started the series about 7 years ago I couldn't put them down either. I am nearly half way through the new one, lots happening!
ReplyDeleteIt's SO beautiful! The color is just gorgeous. And Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening is one of my all-time favorite poems :)
ReplyDeleteFrom the ones you linked I love Campside!
This is gorgeous! I've not yet attempted a shawl...but am now feeling slightly tempted after seeing your handiwork! My favourite of the patterns is the Midnight shawl, I've got a things for garter stitch at the moment!
ReplyDeleteIt looks so stunning! Oh I love everything about it: the name, the pattern and the yarn! I love Brill and Winterberry too from the ones you've linked.
